This position is responsible for leading all aspects of the Trade Program and Customs transactions execution, as well as, the oversight of global customs compliance and regulatory activities. The position is directly responsible for the management of US and Canada Customs brokers, as well as, all functions responsible for the assurance of trade program participation and customs compliance.
This is a hybrid position working three days in the office (Monday, Tuesday & Thursday.).
Responsibilities
- Lead the trade compliance team to ensure the importing activities comply with governmental laws and regulations as well as technical direction and guidance.
- Ensures that imports are performed to applicable regulations, improves processes, and works with the team to minimize compliance risks
- Subject matter expert to provide support related to Country of Origin determination, HS code classification, Free Trade Agreement analysis and eligibility.
- Work cross-functionally with other global and regional teams as necessary to carry out trade compliance goals and assignments
- Create and maintain Compliance manuals, systems, and procedures.
- Regularly monitor global trade compliance news and regulation changes to ensure continued compliance. Ensure internal systems and processes comply with regulatory changes.
- Build a trusted partnership with management to advise and make recommendations for our technical and business direction including future state systems and partners to support Global Customs compliance.
- Performs periodic analytical reviews of internal team processes and data to ensure both efficiency and accuracy. Ensure desktop procedures are maintained to reflect current process.
- Mentors and manages the career development of the global customs & trade compliance team members and technical knowledge.
- Collaborate with the Government Relations function to represent and advocate interests regarding public policy pertaining to import, export, and transportation strategies.
- Digitize and automate the capability to scale across 50 + locations globally
- Align cross functionally with Finance, Tax, Legal, and Supply Chain to ensure compliance to internal financial objectives.
- Role accountable for on-time Customs related licensing/registrations/etc
- Drafts talking points, one-pagers, and presentations to disseminate regulatory related information for leadership awareness and action
- Ensure post entry audits conducted with established audit compliance requirements.
Qualifications
I. Experience/Skills/Education Requirements
- Education/Degrees:
- Bachelor Degree with preference in Finance, Supply Chain Management, Logistics.
- Certificates/Licenses:
- US Customs Broker License
- Special Skills:
- US Customs Trade program management and Harmonized Tariff Classification for Apparel
- The ability to learn and utilize various types of software / ERP information systems.
- Working knowledge of US Customs ACE portal.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Years of experience:
- 10+ years
- Type of experience:
- Experience in Customs and Trade compliance, Apparel Harmonized Tariff classification, Country of Origin determination, Trade program management, CF28/Audit responses. Logistics, transportation, manufacturing, and/or distribution.
- Required travel: 10% or less
- English required
II. Preferred experience, skills, and education that are not required for job but beneficial to role (i.e. bi-lingual).
- Solid understanding of cost/benefit analysis and Free Trade Agreement value methods
- Experience with trading company financial transactions.
- Experience with exporting and/or importing via various ports of entry and modes of transportation.
- Executing Trade Programs in Apparel.
- Knowledge of organizational supply chain and systems.
- Knowledge of Commercial Customs documentation for complex buy/sell arrangements.
- Knowledge of CTPAT compliance
