The Product Copywriter will report to the Sr. Content Production Manager and will have the option of working remotely with periodic travel to our company headquarters in Winston-Salem, N.C. This position will create engaging, clear, and persuasive product descriptions for all HBI brands (Hanes, Maidenform, Bali, etc.). The ideal candidate is an amazing writer and detail-oriented editor who works well in a self-directed environment and has a passion for apparel. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to help streamline processes and challenge the status quo. One of your main goals will be to use product information, SEO keywords, and digital assets to write best-in-class copy that drives traffic, increases sales and reduces returns. Other tasks include but are not limited to SEO category copy, support for omnichannel initiatives, and packaging.
Responsibilities
- Work alongside a team of talented product copywriters.
- Meet output and product copy quality expectations across all DTC websites and other retail channels, such as Amazon, Walmart, etc
- The expected writing output for this position is approximately 100 product descriptions/week, including a product title, romance copy block, bullets, and backend keywords.
- Help develop junior copywriters by assisting the Product Copy Manager with various copyediting tasks. • Liaise with the legal team to ensure that all product copy is legally compliant and help keep accurate records of all written intellectual proprieties.
- Present copy to stakeholders and support your work with a clear rationale, SEO data, and recommendations.
- Use data-driven insights such as keyword traffic reporting tools in copy to help drive traffic/search in PDPs.
- Adhere to the brand's voice standards, category-specific product copy guidelines, and best practices related to product descriptions.
- Contribute to category-specific competitive analyses and development of product copy guidelines, ensuring that we have a competitive, digital-first approach to all copy that we produce.
- Collaborate and maintain open lines of communication with the Product Copy Manager, product teams, and primary stakeholders to prioritize projects and report on their progress.
- Capture unique selling angles for products based on product class, materials, design/style, and features, working with marketing and merchandising teams to maintain the accuracy and integrity of product information.
- Continually develop copywriting skills and resources to retain creative and technical expertise in the industry that is essential to HBI’s growth.
- Be a change advocate, especially during our company-wide PIM implementation. This includes contributing ideas and highlighting opportunities to our process-improvement, product, and content syndication teams.
- Do all the above in a fast-paced environment with daily deadlines and a high volume of work. The pace should thrill you, not derail you.
Minimum Education/ Experience
Bachelor's degree with 3+ years relevant work experience OR Master's + 1+ relevant work experience; 4+ years of equivalent work experience can be substituted for Bachelor's degree.
Specific Skills or Experience Required
- Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Experience required.
- 3+ years of experience working with eCommerce B2C and eCommerce retailer environments, specifically within product copy strongly preferred.
- Basic knowledge of SEO, creative writing, and grammar principles with proven proficiency in copywriting and proofreading.
- Basic understanding of content strategy best practices.
- Experience working in an eCommerce retail environment and participating in copy-optimization initiatives.
- Previous experience working within an enterprise-class Product Information Management system (e.g., Salsify) is strongly preferred.
- Experience with Content Management Systems (ex. Magento/Shopify) preferred.
- Candidate must provide relevant copy samples and/or an online portfolio.
