Overview

The Retail Planner is responsible for collaborating with both internal teams and retail partners to optimize product availability, maximize sales, and achieve inventory goals. This role requires a strong analytical skill set, an understanding of retail dynamics, and the ability to work cross-functionally with sales, marketing, and design teams.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with retail partners, including inventory planners and buyers. Lead collaboration efforts with the retailer’s inventory planner, ensuring alignment of demand forecasts, promotional activities, and market trends.

 

  • Analyze sales data, inventory levels, and market trends to make recommendations on product replenishment and allocation. Drive the development and execution of replenishment strategies with the retailer’s inventory planner.

 

  • Participate in seasonal planning meetings to align product distribution strategies with marketing and sales initiatives.

 

  • Communicate regularly with retail partners to understand their needs and address any issues related to product availability. Regularly present sales and inventory data analyses to the retailer.

 

  • Monitor sales performance against plan and provide insights and recommendations to improve product performance. Identify underperforming areas and develop strategies for improvement.

 

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including supply chain, marketing, and finance, to ensure that planning strategies are effectively executed and aligned with overall business objectives.

 

  • Determine initial sell-in volumes estimates for new product launches, identifying key customers/doors and ensuring monthly refreshes are accurate and timely.

 

  • Collaborate with Demand Planning on strategic adjustments to the forecast based on market intelligence and customer insights; lead efforts in identifying key customer/product adjustments; actively participate in Demand Review Meetings (DRM).

 

  • Manage ladders for top customers, overseeing OTB by category and ensuring alignment between POS data and inventory levels.

 

  • Present weekly, monthly, and seasonal reports on key performance indicators (KPIs), including sales, margin, inventory levels, and turn rates. Provide actionable insights to senior management.

 

  • Conduct and oversee ad hoc analyses related to customer and product performance, ensuring actionable insights are communicated to stakeholders.

 

Minimum Education/ Experience      

Bachelor's degree with 5+ years relevant work experience; 4+ years of equivalent work experience can be substituted for Bachelor's degree.

 

Preferred Education/ Experience      

  • Experience with major retail partners, particularly in a planning capacity
  • Familiarity with retail planning software

 

Specific Skills or Experience Required

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze and interpret sales data, market trends, and performance metrics to make informed decisions
  • Forecasting: Proficiency in predicting future sales and inventory needs based on historical data, market trends and conditions.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensuring accuracy in inventory management and sales planning.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with retail planning software and tools.
  • Organizational Skills: Efficiently managing multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines.
