We are seeking a Director of Data Engineering to lead the development of innovative data platforms and solutions that power our business transformation and create a lasting impact. In this role, you will lead the design and engineering of scalable, high-performing data platforms that transform complex data into actionable insights. From crafting robust data ingestion pipelines to architecting advanced data solutions, you will lead a talented team of global engineers to solve challenging problems at scale. Responsibilities:

  • Drive the implementation and development of the enterprise data platform, data management and analytics initiatives.
  • Create a culture of engineering best practices, focusing on data engineering processes, standards, data quality, documentation, data governance, SLAs and data contracts.
  • Establish operational excellence with CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, alerts, quality checks, reusability, and scalability for international teams.
  • Create and track key metrics to monitor data reliability and performance; Work closely with Director Data Governance to implement data governance to manage data ownership, access, quality, and lineage; to ensure compliance with local data privacy regulations.
  • Manage budgets by optimizing costs related to data storage, processing, and ingestion.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical direction to a global team of data engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Build and scale a high-performing global data engineering team, attracting top talent, and providing opportunities for growth.
  • Lead initiatives to optimize and modernize legacy systems while minimizing disruption to business operations.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams of Data Scientists, Product Managers, BI Developers, and Business Unit partners to deeply understand their data needs and jointly develop data solutions that serve these needs effectively.
  • Drive the design, building, and launching of new data models and data pipelines and workflows to ensure reliable data ingestion, transformation, and storage for diverse use cases.
  • Create, prioritize, communicate, manage, and execute roadmaps, project plans, and commitments.
  • Evaluate and implement modern data architecture principles, such as data mesh, lakehouse, and cloud-native solutions.
  • Continuously research and integrate emerging technologies to improve system performance, scalability, resilience, and cost efficiency.
  • Foster a collaborative environment that empowers team members to innovate and take ownership of their work.

 

Minimum Education/ Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, or a related field with 10+ years relevant work experience; 14+ years of equivalent work experience can be substituted for Bachelor's degree.

 

Preferred Education/ Experience

Master's degree in a relevant field.

 

Specific Skills or Experience Required

  • Experience in data architecture, data engineering, or analytics, with a strong background in designing enterprise-scale data platforms, pipelines, and architecture.
  • Proficiency in cloud-based data platforms (Azure preferred) and data warehousing, ETL, and data integration technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with modern data technologies and frameworks, such as Apache Spark, Databricks, or similar.
  • Strong skills in Python and SQL.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data catalog, privacy, and security best practices.
  • Solid understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), Agile methodologies, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Management of multi-disciplinary team development to meet deadlines and deliverable quality.
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects and mentoring teams.
  • Experience with MLOps and deploying machine learning models at scale is a plus.
  • Experience with predictive and prescriptive analytics is a plus.
  • Exposure to advanced AI solutions (Large Language Models, Computer Vision) is a plus.
  • Experience with retail or consumer packaged goods is a plus
